The Witness in Fire and Stone

Robert Meyers-Lussier · Painting - Digital Fresco Painting From Family Heirloom Painting

The Witness in Fire and Stone begins with the family heirloom tiger painting that has been part of my family since at least 1969. The heirloom image is transformed into a monumental fresco painting built from ochre, sienna, umber, deep red-orange, blue-black, and cool stone gray. A wedge of flame drives diagonally through one side of the composition while fractured architecture tilts and collapses on the other. The tiger remains almost unnaturally still at the center, its familiar pose and expression preserved while broad broken strokes, modeled planes, chalky plaster texture, smoke-darkened passages, and visible fresco seams give the figure the weight and permanence of a wall painting.
