The Watcher in the Ivory Garden begins with the family heirloom tiger painting that has been part of my family since at least 1969. The tiger is transformed into a highly ornamental black-and-ivory Art Nouveau illustration. Flowing floral vines, roses, stylized botanical forms, a dramatic peacock feather, and an elaborate repeating border surround the seated figure, while bold areas of black and cream replace the original warm red-orange palette. The tigers peculiar expression and unmistakable posture remain intact, allowing the familiar character of the heirloom to hold its own within the dense decorative pattern.
