The Light That Remains
Robert Meyers-Lussier · Drawing - Digital Charcoal Drawing From Family Heirloom Painting
The Light That Remains begins with the family heirloom tiger painting that has been part of my family since at least 1969. The tiger is transformed into a dark, atmospheric charcoal drawing built from rubbed blacks, smoky browns, rough directional marks, and areas that seem to emerge from or disappear into shadow. Behind the head, a broad luminous circle breaks through the darkness like a remembered light. The tigers familiar posture remains intact, but edges soften, stripes become gestural, and much of the body is reconstructed through tonal mass rather than precise contour.
