Red Testament begins with the family heirloom tiger painting that has been part of my family since at least 1969. The tiger is transformed into an intensely textured expressionist impasto painting built from heavy passages of crimson, black, burnt orange, ochre, and muted gold. Thick strokes and scraped surfaces give the image a physical, almost carved quality, while dark structural lines hold the figure against the turbulent red field. The original pose and expression remain intact, but the tiger gains a new weight and gravity through the density of the paint and the force of the surrounding color.
