Color Country begins with the family heirloom tiger painting that has been part of my family since at least 1969. The tiger is transformed into an expressionist oil painting built from broad, visible brushwork and intensely saturated color. Golden yellow and orange define the animal against sweeping fields of cobalt blue, violet, rose, green, and red, while tall simplified plant forms cut through the background like dark vertical rhythms. The original pose and character remain intact, but naturalistic space gives way to an emotionally charged landscape in which color carries as much weight as the subject itself.
